LGBTQ+ health care you can trust
You deserve a plan that treats your whole health—emotional, physical, and mental—and embraces the communities you belong to. CHPW Individual & Family plans cover several benefits geared toward LGBTQ+ people.
Gender-affirming care
Coverage includes health care services prescribed to treat any condition related to the individual’s gender identity. These may include primary care visits, specialty care, outpatient mental health services, prescription drug benefits, and surgical services.
Some examples of treatments CHPW covers when they are medically necessary:
- Hormone therapy
- Counseling services
- Mastectomy and chest reconstruction
- Breast augmentation
- Hair removal procedures
- Gender-affirming facial procedures
- Tracheal shaves
For more details, please see your plan’s Evidence of Coverage and CHPW’s gender affirming surgery medical necessity clinical coverage criteria policy.
Mental and behavioral health services
Sadly, members of Washington’s LGBTQ+ community still experience bias and isolation, which can have adverse effects on mental, emotional, and behavioral health.
CHPW members have access to a range of mental health services that include:
- Individual or group counseling
- Inpatient and outpatient treatment
- 24/7 Nurse Advice Line
- Prescription medication

Additional support through community resources
Often, the things that make the biggest difference to your health happen outside the doctor’s office. CHPW’s Community Programs and Care Management can help connect you with local resources for food, shelter, and job training.
Our Case Managers provide individual support for CHPW members to help you meet your health goals. They can help you schedule doctor’s appointments, coordinate your care, fill out paperwork (ex: for disability), apply for jobs, and much more. If you have questions, please contact our Care Management team at 1-866-418-7004.
All members requesting gender-affirming surgical services will be referred to CHPW Care Management to help with navigation and to ensure coordination of care.
