Annual checkups: Why they matter
A physical, a checkup, a wellness visit. Whatever you call it, the bottom line is the same: Seeing your doctor once a year is one of the best things you can do to stay on top of your health.
These visits are a type of preventive care, which is routine care meant to keep you healthy and catch potential issues early. Your CHPW Individual & Family Cascade Select plan covers annual preventive visits at no out-of-pocket cost when you see an in-network provider.
Even if you feel perfectly fine, an annual checkup is important because some health problems don’t cause noticeable symptoms at first. High blood pressure, for example, often has no warning signs in the beginning stages. That’s why many people don’t realize anything is wrong until it leads to more serious health complications.
A physical can help detect these types of problems early, when they’re easiest to treat. Your annual checkup is also a great time to ask questions and talk with your primary care provider (PCP) about any concerns.
If you haven’t scheduled yours yet, call your doctor’s office or clinic to schedule your annual preventive visit. And don’t forget to claim your MemberFirst Rewards if you receive any eligible screenings during your visit.
