3 things to know about 2027 Open Enrollment

The Open Enrollment Period is your yearly opportunity to review and renew or change your Community Health Plan of Washington (CHPW) Individual & Family Cascade Select insurance coverage.

Here are three important things to keep in mind:

1. Open Enrollment runs November 1 through January 15

  • Your coverage will begin on January 1, 2027, if you sign up for a new plan by December 31, 2026.
  • Your coverage will begin on February 1, 2027, if you sign up for a new plan January 1 – January 15.
  • If you want to stay in your current plan, you don’t have to do anything. You will be re-enrolled in the same or a similar plan for 2027.

Renewal notices: You should have already received a renewal letter from CHPW and/or the Washington Health Benefit Exchange (WAHBE). This letter details any 2027 changes to your premiums, deductibles, copays, and covered benefits. Use it as your starting point to decide if you want to keep your current plan or switch to another one.

2. Compare plan options and financial assistance

Take a few minutes to compare 2027 options to find the best match for your health goals and your budget.

Income limits for financial help (federal premium tax credits, state subsidies) can change from year to year. Make sure to update your estimated 2027 household income during the enrollment process in Washington Healthplanfinder to ensure you receive the most savings available to you.

3. Use your coverage

Insurance works best when you use it proactively. Many services, like primary care and urgent care visits, are covered before you meet your deductible. This means you only pay a set, predictable copay (or nothing at all) for these visits from day one, without having to pay thousands of dollars out-of-pocket first.

You pay nothing out-of-pocket for preventive care, like annual checkups and recommended vaccines, when you see a network provider.

Guide to fall flu and COVID-19 vaccines

The arrival of fall brings a seasonal increase in respiratory illnesses such as the flu and COVID-19. One of the best ways to protect yourself and those around you is to stay up to date on your shots.

Your CHPW Cascade Select plan covers recommended routine vaccinations at no out-of-pocket cost when you get them from an in-network doctor, clinic, or pharmacy.

Washington State Department of Health (DOH) recommendations for the 2026–2027 respiratory season:

Children (6 months – 18 years): Get the annual flu shot and one or more doses of the updated COVID-19 vaccine depending on age and vaccination history.
Adults (ages 19–64): Get the annual flu shot and one or more doses of the updated COVID-19 vaccine depending on medical risk.
Adults (ages 65 and older): Get the annual flu shot and two doses of the updated COVID-19 vaccine, spaced at least two months apart.

These are general recommendations. Your doctor may recommend a different vaccination schedule based on your age, health conditions, pregnancy status, or other factors.

You can safely receive your flu shot and COVID-19 shot during the same visit.

See details of DOH vaccine recommendations.

Feeling sick?

In many cases you can avoid the crowded waiting room by using CHPW Virtual Care. Connect with a licensed doctor by phone or video 24/7 from the comfort of your home. Best of all, Urgent Care visits booked through CHPW Virtual Care cost $0 out of pocket!

That’s all for now. Until next time, be safe and be well.
